What to consider when installing a wood ceiling: humidity, care and sequence
Site conditions, installation sequence and maintenance access help a wood grille ceiling last. The key points to plan for.

A wood grille ceiling should not only look good on day one but keep that look over time. A few basic points before, during and after installation make the difference.
Site conditions
Wood is a natural material that responds to humidity and temperature. It helps the long-term result when:
- wet trades (plaster, screed, paint) are finished,
- the space is enclosed and, ideally, climate control is running,
- the material is allowed to acclimatise to the site beforehand.
In areas close to the outside, such as frequently opened entrances, the material should be chosen accordingly. For the differences between solid, laminated and veneered options, see wood grille ceiling options.
Installation sequence
On site, Ceilüx proposes a planned, sequential way of working rather than a crowded work environment. After the survey, the start date is agreed with the client. When the ceiling is installed at a stage where other trades will not affect it:
- the slats are less exposed to impacts and dirt,
- handing over products without deformation becomes easier,
- the need for touch-ups later is reduced.
Access to the void
As with other ceilings, there are services behind a wood ceiling. Where and how the void will be reached should be planned at design stage. Removable modules make it possible to work without touching the rest of the ceiling.
Cleaning and care
- Surface dust can be removed with a dry, soft cloth.
- Abrasive products and heavy wet cleaning should be avoided.
- Care recommendations for the specific finish are shared at handover.
Handover and support
Ceilüx trains the technical team taking over the project. Technical support is also available after handover when needed.
Summary
The right conditions, the right sequence and planned access help a wood ceiling look as it did on day one for years. For design, read rhythm in wood ceilings, and for your project you can request a site survey.
