Aluminium and galvanised baffles: choosing material and RAL colour

The difference between aluminium and galvanised baffle profiles and how RAL colour choice changes a space. Advice on material and colour.

Baffle ceiling with linear lighting in a large hall

The effect of a baffle ceiling depends on the material and colour of the profiles as much as on their rhythm. Ceilüx makes V-series profiles in aluminium and galvanised steel and finishes them in RAL colour options.

Aluminium or galvanised steel?

Aluminium is light and naturally resists corrosion. It stands out for long profiles and applications where low weight matters.

Galvanised steel is steel with a zinc coating that protects it from corrosion. Galvanised profiles can be chosen where strength comes first.

The right material depends on whether the space is indoor or semi-open, the profile length, the suspension conditions and the project specification. This decision is made together during the site survey.

Choosing a RAL colour

RAL is a system that defines colours with standard codes, so a colour chosen by its RAL code can be reproduced in the same shade across production runs. In a baffle ceiling, colour affects:

  • Light tones (white, light grey): make the ceiling feel lighter, reflect light and open up the space.
  • Dark tones (anthracite, black): bring the profiles forward, or together with the void create a dark volume that helps hide services.
  • Strong colours (red, for example): turn the ceiling into the focal point and bring corporate colours into the architecture.

Colour and light together

The same colour looks different under different light. A RAL code can read differently in a daylit glazed hall and in an artificially lit corridor, so colour should ideally be chosen with the lighting conditions in mind and from a physical sample.

The background

In a baffle ceiling, the void is visible between the profiles. Besides the profile colour, the colour of the surface behind affects the overall look: light profiles stand out against a dark background, dark profiles look more graphic against a light one.

Summary

The right material and colour define how a baffle ceiling relates to the space. For general features, read what is a baffle ceiling; for tall spaces, read baffle ceilings in high spaces. You can request a site survey for your project.
